Glimpse invitation

Feel free to download the invitation to the exhibition and send it on to friends who might like to come to the opening event of Glimpse. There are going to be two other art events on in Margate the same evening, which together make Margate the place to be!

The Turner Contemporary Project Space will be opening the Sound of Music exhibition, as well as a new work, Crossroads, by David Blandy. And, from 7.30 – 10.50pm Limbo Arts presents an evening of art and live music featuring Vialka, Neverest Songs, Savlon and Tikoloshe at the Substation Project Space.

The Sound of Music exhibition which explores the links between art, sound and music. Featuring 30 works in a variety of media from artists including John Cage, Turner Prize winner Jeremy Deller, Turner Prize nominee Angela Bulloch and Pierre Huyghe, all selected from the collection of the FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais in Dunkirk, the Turner Contemporary Project Space will be the only UK venue to host this exciting multi-media exhibition. Alongside Sound of Music, Turner Contemporary presents Crossroads, a new video installation by David Blandy. Crossroads investigates the mythology surrounding the legendary Robert Johnson, a bluesman with three gravestones, 29 recorded songs and only two known photographs, who reputedly sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads. The video, filmed in the heat of the Mississippi Delta, follows Blandy’s character, The Blues Legend, on his journey to the crossroads to recover his soul. The Sound of Music and Crossroads will run until Sunday 14 June.

Also, for one night only local artists will transform the interior of the Substation Project Space into a fantasy stage-set which will encompass both the audience and the evening’s musical performers. Headline act, French-Swiss two piece Vialka, proclaim themselves to be a “Turbo-folk mini-orchestra”, and promise to thrill the audience with their cabaret-influenced punk rock. Support comes from Margate’s Neverest Songs, Faversham’s Tikoloshe, and Canterbury/Brighton act Savlon. In addition, the local Roadkill Fanzine will be holding a stall at the venue, selling ‘zines, T-shirts and drawings. Tickets for this event are £4.50 payable on the door.on the night.

So celebrate the first Friday of British Summertime in Margate with a great night out of art and events.

  1. Hello! I have just joined your Flickr site and am wondering if it is too late to join in the exhibition GLIMPSE? I think it's a wonderful idea and look forward to it. I am a photography and i.media student ( mature) and would love to participate.
    best wishes,

  2. Hi Kim,

Thanks for joining us. The exhibition entries for this first show are already decided. The images are drawn from the group pool before the idea of an exhibition was discussed. So it's a really eclectic and unusual mix of images that were added to the group just to be part of the group. If all things go well, we'll do another exhibition and event, so please join us.
